In this article we should like to tell you a bit more about fixtures. What is a fixture exactly and how does it work? What can the extra functionalities of fixtures accomplish? What and how
A fixture is a device with which a printboard can be programmed and tested. Useful, because once you finished a printboard, you also want to know whether the printboard actually works and whether the chips have been supplied with the correct information.
Because the printboard contains contact fields and because programming pins are attached to the fixture, a connection can be made. This connection enables the requested checks to be performed and ensures that the chips can be programmed.
A fixture can be extended by adding some additional functionality. For instance, a magnet can be attached to the fixture, in order to keep the fixture shut during programming. Also, led testers can be attached to the fixture, in order to check whether the LED on the print works and which colour is shown. And by using a carve pen, a printboard can be marked once the print has been approved.

The fixture is an off-the-shelf tool which is being purchased regularly. TEKLAB professionally customizes the fixture so the insert plate fits exactly. This does not only improve the ease of use but also the reliability. The insert plate in the fixture is CNC milled and the pressure arm has been made fit to the print. This way equal pressure is being applied to the total print. And by closing off certain areas of the fixture, it is impossible to touch the sharp contact pens with your fingers, which ensures more safety.
